My network is my health with Marie Curie
As a palliative care physician, who has worked at Marie Curie for 25 years,Dr Karon Ornadel is shining spotlight the institutional racism within palliative care. Keen to tackle the reasons why patients from minoritised ethnic backgrounds do not access palliative and end of life care services, and why staff from minoritised ethnic backgrounds are not represented in higher levels jobs within the palliative care sector, her goal is to enable the provision of accessible and appropriate palliative and end-of-life care services for all. How? By creating powerful networks that bring people together.
She joins Amara this week to discuss this and her role as Co-chair of the Marie Curie Ethnic Diversity staff network; her work with the Race Equity Committee for the Association of Palliative Medicine; and her experience as co-founder and co-facilitator of the Hospice UK Race Equity ECHO, a community of practice for people of colour who work in any palliative care sector role (clinical and non-clinical).
